Fran Vail's Watercolor Wings of Midwest Game Birds

I became intrigued with the exquisite beauty of wings when I painted several specimens from the Field Museum (Chicago).

Working from the actual wings, I glazed layer upon layer (sometimes as many as 20 times) of watercolor, to capture the subtle shades and iridescence of each species’ wing.
